[ Camilla ]
The only way to describe this weather would be... unpleasant. For two days on end, it seemed like, the heavens had been storming down, releasing waterfalls of rain onto the prairie lands. Underfoot was a mushy stew of mud, ants, and dying grasses. Even the birds called sadly from their miserable perches among the few trees that were scattered about the landscape. In the few moments that the squall had ceased, Camilla found a somewhat dry-ish rock to sprawl herself out upon and absorb the rare rays of sunshine that had managed to peek through the gray clouds. The grassland was already quite barren and depressing. When everything was gray and dreary, it was much more depressing, if that was even a conceivable notion. So she figured, in the land of closed eyes, she could conjure up an image of sunshine and alpine forests that she so yearned to experience. The gray wolf's home was amongst noble peaks and roaring streams. But she was not a full gray wolf, characterized by the black-gray-white gradient of furs that shagged off the shoulders of her ancestors. She was a Mexican wolf, a subspecies. A miserable subspecies which roamed the plains and deserts, hunting measly armadillos and lizards rather than the majestic elks and caribous that her ancestors could take down. No, she wouldn't even dare of approaching a caribou. She had only heard stories, but they were large, mighty, and traveled in large herds, similar to the buffalo that traveled the West.

Even though it was foolish to even think of touching a buffalo, she had always yearned to taste the meat, and to experience the thrill of a hunt with packmates. She was now a middle aged canine, and was still alone. It was a hard life, wandering the vast rocky landscapes alone. And as the days passed, the female grew less and less enthusiastic about the prospects of finding a meaning. The only thing keeping her alive was her knowledge of herbs and wildflowers; which leaves could be ground into a poultice and which stalks could be consumed to cure nausea. As summertime approached, the days grew longer and hotter, leaving her in a perpetual state of thirst.

It was then that she wandered upon a curious structure, a large hole in the ground supported by scattered sticks and leaves. It smelled of wolf, so cautiously, the female peeked into the burrow and whispered a meek "Hello?"

The Alpha had done her rounds for the day, and while that was finished, a lone wolf had managed to avoid Nashotas trek. This wasn't an issue, but Nashota didn't like that someone had ventured toward her den. The rain may have dulled the females scent, but Nashota was stubborn, and she wouldn't give up. The feather in her ear brushed her ear as a breeze ruffled the fluffy females fur. 'She is bold to have come so far' Nashota thought briefly to herself. The scents were new to her in not just the females presence, but where she had come from. Nashota was a Grey wolf, and for that, she anticipated and only imagined what she would find at her den.

When the den was visible, Nashota arrived just as a mixed wolf had stuck her head inside and checked to see if anyone was home. Nashota stepped forward, picking her way carefully now as to not disturb the females actions. She stuck stuck her head inside, observing as well with her ears pulled back in curiosity. "Hmm, nothing here." She said thoughtfully as her eyes slid to the stranger with a mischivious smile that pulled at her lips, exposing only the tips of her fangs. "And you are...?"

A stranger's raspy voice piqued her interest then, coming from directly behind her. Perhaps Camilla had been too preoccupied with sniffing into the unfortunate hole, trying to figure out what sad creature dwelled within. Maybe it reeked of wolf because a canine had chased a family of prairie dogs out? Camilla, herself, could find no good reason for staying so near to a muddy mess. She liked her fur pristine, demonstrating colors as brazen and hearty as a sunset and as crisp as the grasses in autumn. Her coat was luxurious and unique, outshining even the most dazzling pheasant-bird or quail. Besides, why cover oneself in the muddy innards of a hole when he could sleep beneath an indigo blanket of stars? Connecting constellations and counting the effulgent orbs emblazoned on the visage above her was what lulled Camilla to sleep each night. But she could understand the appeals of sleeping within the confines of a den. The mud would keep the mosquitoes out -- indeed, Camilla had spent many nights tortured by the infernal buzzing of these persistent little pests. Few would dare to fly into the beast's lair.

"Oh, are you the poor soul that lives here?" Camilla taunted, flicking her tail and flashing her pearly whites. "I was just trying to figure out who would actually subject themself to such an... unsavory lifestyle." She then smirked, adding, "I was between 'a family of rodents' and 'an old, raggedy hermit' and I'm... guessing you're not the former." She was well aware of how obnoxious she was being. In fact, obnoxiousness was the guise she put on for defense, to keep bachelor males away from her as she wandered the plains. It was different this time, because this wolf... wasn't a male. It was another single female, like her. So perhaps... some submissiveness would benefit her already bleak situation. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I can see that you're not a raggedy old hermit either. So that poses the question, who are you?"

Nashota backed up a bit, as to not get rear ended by the smaller female. The Alpha sat down as the stranger spoke. Nashota felt rather amused, more so than insulted, though the insult was rather plain, yet small. The strangers words indicated that perhaps she mistook Nashota intent of her words and the female raise her ears, alert, and stood, raising her tail as the stranger made up for the comments, but still. "It is polite that a stranger introduce ones self when they are within another's territory." She cocked her head slightly to the left, squinting her green eyes. "Since you are new, I don't expect you to know about manners, seeing how young you are." Nashotas smile had fallen after the female asked who Nashota was. "I am Nashota, Alpha of this den you indirectly called a mud hole." Her native accent slipped on a few words, but Nashota knew she could at least pronounce them correctly.

Kai yawned, she had never been one for mornings, especially when they're as dreary as this. Rain always played havoc with her bad joints, she hated having her coat wet too, making her coat feel somewhat...sticky and unpleasant. She picked herself up off of the semi-dry piece of ground she had managed to find and shook her coat. Kai had always hated sleeping on a hard ground, she much preferred a cosy den to sleep in. That's when the thought hit her; she needed food. It had been a while since Kai had found anything even remotely...edible, to eat, she trotted off, in search of a meal. Kai could smell a few things in the wind, but the rain masked most of it, she huffed, unhappily, she trodded along, hoping she'd find something sooner or later.

"Alpha, you say?" Camilla scoffed at the stranger - Nashota, she had introduced herself now - in partial disbelief. "That is a very archaic term you're using." She placed her rear on the soft grass below her, eyeing the other female passively. "Alpha, beta, it's all old news to me. Might as well be calling yourself the bourgeoisie and me, the proletariat." Camilla shrugged, however. This was no place for judgment. If this wolf presided over this territory, Camilla was no foolish enough to disrespect that. Although, it did surprise her that a single female - or so she thought, seeing as this wolf was quite young - ruled independently. Typically, males were the governors of packs, head of the hierarchy. To Camilla, this realization onto spoke for the female's strength. Perhaps she was so strong that she was able to chase bachelor males away. So powerful that a stomp could open up a gaping hole in the ground that would suck any rivals into its depths. Okay, so perhaps the latter was a bit excessive and unrealistic. But still, it just proved Camilla's point: she knew nothing about the figure who stood before her. This was unnerving enough to Camilla that it inflicted some fear. Usually her conversations with other wolves did not last this long.

"Okay, well you introduced yourself. It's only fair I play along. I'm Camilla, Alpha of... uh... some... different territory. You've probably heard of me." It was then that she spotted yet another single female, only this one was not as young and lithe. She wandered on achy bones, heaving herself out of the den with a stomach growling so loudly that Camilla thought it could be its own wolf. This display was really quite amusing, and Camilla's annoying personality could not prevent her from poking fun. "Hey there, old geezer, you, uh, need some help?"

Kai pricked her ears as she directed her view to the two younger wolves, she twitched her ear at the term 'old geezer' and let out a huff "I suppose you younger wolves don't have manners these days, but unless you have some food on you, then not really" Kai said as she sat down, she had never been fond of other wolves, in fact, she always avoided them.

Camilla, Kai was outside the den lol.

Nashota snorted at the female as she named herself as an Alpha. Nashota couldn't see it. She saw Camilla to be a rather irritable wolf if that was true. "You can drop the act." Nashota replied feeling annoyed. "Seems we got off on the wrong foot." But even as she tried to patch things up, Nashota flicked an ear and breathed deeply as another scent of wolf drew near. Another female. Nashota chuckled at the older females words. "Apologies,I have none but..." she disappeared into the darkness if the den and reappeared with a half gnawed stick. She dropped it a few feet from the female. "Chewing on this may distract you from thoughts of food." She cocked her head to the left again, tail curled at the presence that so many wolves had found her den. "It seems fate has broought you both here for a purpose." She said wisely, glancing between the two of them. She wondered how they felt about joining her to form a pack.

Kai almost had her hopes up, until she saw the stick, still it was better than nothing, and she knew the young wolf had no obligation to help her, so it was a change for once. "Thank you" Kai lay down, moving the stick in between her paws as she nawed at it, she stopped when the young wolf said something about fate, turning her head slightly she barked "fate? how so?"

The rain was unwelcome, but water wasn't in short supply anymore, so in a messed up roundabout way Thistle got what he wished for. In the form he hated the most. At this point his almost all black fur was more of a brown than anything. I'm sure other wolves wouldn't be this muddy, how did I even get this dirty? Thistle asked himself. Thinking about it a bit more he wondered how he even got to where he is now, The young wolf had been wandering aimlessly for longer than he cared to remember. His tired mood took a quick turn when he looked up from the ground directly in front of him and saw three other wolves off in the distance.
Once the moment of shock had passed Thistle's body immediately dropped low to the ground so the others wouldn't notice him. He was much too curious however and began creeping closer, trying his best to stay hidden in the shadows and darker areas. He also did his best to keep his eyes low, usually in dark places it's his bright eyes that give him away.
Once Thistle had made it a bit closer he could make out that all three of them were female, and if things were to go poorly and he was seen, and wasn't welcome, he could at least maybe out run the older one. And with that assessment he wholeheartedly hoped that things would go better than what his mind was telling him.

Nashota liked her lips as the old female wolf spoke up. "By fate, I mean that you all have come for the same purpose,  I assume-to find a pack." She eyed each of them carefully, assessing, all while unaware that a black male lay hidden, watching them closely. She chuckled as she turned her attention to Camilla. "Of course, you have an energy like that of a sprinting rabbit. We're you a Hunter with your two-leggeds?" She had seen them hunt. A pack of humans using some kind of tools to kills they prey. The Alpha wondered if humans had sharp teeth...She had never seen them up close. The Alpha didn't wait long for a reply, she was getting restless, suddenly hungry. But she had never hunted with those she had never met. Nashota sighed to herself and waited for Camillas reply, still unaware of another presence.

PostSubject: Re: Newcomers Peak | AW   Newcomers Peak | AW EmptySun May 20, 2018 7:02 pm

- Alois pressed his tongue against the back of his teeth, debating. Should he move out from under this bush, find himself better shelter from this god awful rain, or should he stay where he is currently, hoping that the rain would soon come to a stop? A large huff had slipped out from his mouth, unsure on what he wanted to do at this monent. He disliked the rain. Oh, how he disliked the rain so much. Actually, if you want to get technical, he disliked water in general. He wrinkled his nose up at the thought of getting soaked, having to walk around with a sticky coat for the rest of the day. Perhaps, he might just stay where he is. There was no reason to waste energy on trying to find a completely dry shelter. This was probably as good as it was going to get. Alois rubbed the right side of his face into the ground, 'causing the white fur on that side of his face to be staind brown.

A nearby sound had 'caused the male's ears to flick forward. His pair of ruby colored eyes narrowed as he realized what he had heard; voices. There was three other creatures nearby him, however, he only recognized one of those creatures. And that creature was his Alpha. The male grumbled under his breath, than quickly moved out from under the darkness of the bush. He knew that Nashota would be able to handle her own if something went sour, but he felt uneasy to leave the Alpha alone with a few creatures he thought were strangers. With each step the male had taken toward the group, he felt his protective nature start to flare up. He was probably one of the more aggressive males among the pack, which made him somewhat unpredictable toward strangers. Depending on where the unknown, black colored male was hiding, Alois could have easily walked by him and probably wouldn't even have known it.

As the male was in clear view, he would let out a loud huff. Making his presence clear to the strangers. Afterwards, he would move to place his rump against the ground. A clear grumpy look across his face. Not because of the strangers, but the fact he was now sitting in the rain, allowing his coat to be soaked. As he would just simply sit there, he eyed the two females. One definitely looked more of the older side. She most likely wasn't going to be an issue. -

Nashota looked around, willing to Hear more about what the female had come from in the early days of her life. She flicked an ear when a huff sounds short of her. She found her faithful warrior, Alios sitting with a sour look. The females mood perked and she stepped to him. "Its only rain, Alios." She chuckled. For a moment she forgot about the others. "Report? I sent Enzo on an errand to scout for new recruits. You had border patrol. How did it go?" Her apache accent wasn't too thick that time and she praised herself. The rain felt nice and yet, she too felt a little uncomfortable. They could, perhaps, head closer to the den again, or at least into it.

Things weren't looking too good for Emmett today. Between the downpour of rain that had ruffled his already chaotic coat, the growling of his empty stomach, and of course the large and painful wound on his shoulder, he was beginning to wonder what he had done to deserve such poor luck. If only he hadn't gone after that juvenile elk. Darn thing just looked to tasty after days of not eating, and it was injured, anyway, but he hadn't noticed the youngster's mother hiding in the bushes. The scuffle was nasty and now here he was; bleeding and hungry.

And so he found himself doing something he'd usually never do, directly following the scent of canine into what he guessed had to be a territory of sorts. It was risky even for the typically charming and friendly male, but he was desperate and knew he wouldn't last long on his own in this condition.

Even with his limp Emmett's strides were long. It took him almost no time at all to start spotting the canine figures in the distance. He made no effort to sneak up quietly, figuring they'd like some warning before he pranced into the middle of whatever group conversation they were having. In a few more steps he was within reasonable distance of the group at a standstill, giving each stranger in turn a weak grin that he easily disguised as being lazy and unbothered. "Hey there," he introduced in his low southern drawl, "ehm, sorry to crash the party but I seem to have gotten myself into a... situation." As if on cue Emmett swayed on his muddy paws, starting to feel faint as he positioned himself to show off the long gash on his shoulder to all these strangers. The long days of traveling were finally starting to catch up to him. His eyes lost some focus and without warning his front paw slipped out from underneath him, causing him to slide to the wet ground with a grunt. "This is so embarrasin'" he slurred, trying to crack a joke and refocus on any of the figures around him but failing. Emmett was too tired to even consider that he'd be an easy target to take out if the wolves were hostile. Maybe a quick death would be merciful anyway, considering the alternative was bleeding out all alone. "Wouldn't s'pose you guys got a medic?"

As the lass waited for the Male to respond, a scent caught her attention. It was blood. Shocked at the discovery, nashita glanced around just as the Male introduce himself, seeming embarrassed. Nashota looked at the Male, then around to see if the healer was still near but she couldn't see any. "What happened to you?" She asked, examining his wounds. "And your name?" He was ni threat here. His state left him completely helpless. "Must have been some fight." She mused, trying to lighten his spirits.

Emmett squirmed around in the mud, trying to get himself comfortable as he waited for some sort of reaction. It was a female's voice that redirected his focus, and with some effort he lifted his head, finding who was speaking to him. The stranger was a pleasant mix of browns and tans that reminded Emmett of some of his old friends back home - before things went into the gutter, that is - and something in his gut told him she was a leader figure around here.

He lowered his head to let her get a better look at his wound, noticing that she was trying to inspect it. "Sorry for my manners. Name's Emmett." He strained his citrine eyes to make eye contact with the female, giving her a smile that really just looked like a grimace. Emmett opted for wagging his tail a bit instead. "And yourself?"

Her next comment made him shake a bit with laughter, the movement straining him and making him wince. If he were feeling any better he'd be poking back at her comments, might have even made up some grand story about wrestling a mountain lion, but for now he had barely enough energy to even remember the truth. "Ah, more like a hunt gone wrong. Stupid mistake on my end I suppose." Emmett forced his head upright once more and perked his ears forward as he watched the green-eyed female. "Is this your territory?" There was curiosity in his voice and a thoughtful look on his face. She never did say anything about a medic, but Emmett found himself in no rush to go looking elsewhere. It was nice to just talk to someone after being on his own for a while, so he was eager to keep her talking in order to delay the inevitable part where she kicks the mongrel out of her territory and Emmett is back on the road again. It was times like these where he remembered truly what a miserable existence it could be.

The Male had a way with words. Nashota watched him for a moment as he attempted to regain composure, smiling the best he could, but clearly still a grimace. As he bowed his head, she could see the gash made by the hoof of a large prey animal. "Oh my..." Should mumbled in thought. "That's quite an injury you got there." She glanced at the gray Male behind her before looking back at the mixed brown wolf with a plan in mind.

Of course, before she could speak, the Male introduced himself. "Pleasure to meet you, Emmett. I'm Nashota, leader of the Apache Sunrise pack." She grinned at him. "This is my den site, of course. Luckily for us we won't have to carry you to a safe place since we are already there." She glanced over at Camilla whom Nashota had found snooping around her home earlier in the day. "We may need to convince the old woman of the pack to vacate first." She said with some irritation. She looked back at Emmett. "Come, let's get that wound taken care of."

Emmett grunted in agreement as the stranger evaluated him. "You should'a seen the other guy," he quipped, chuckling as she turned her attention to another wolf. Technically the other guy was a female elk, somewhere probably healthy and pleased with herself for outsmarting death, but this stranger didn't need to know that. Emmett offered a dip of his head as she introduced herself as Nashota and confirmed his suspicions about her being leader. With a pained grunt and a lot of effort, Emmett heaved himself back up onto his paws as she explained that this was their actual densite. "You're a lifesaver honestly, Miss Nashota."

He limped a bit closer to the alphess, ready to start heading for the den but was stopped in his tracks by her next words. "Ah. There'll be no need for that. I'd hate to be kickin' out folks just so you guys can patch up some ratty stranger," he commented. Respecting elders had been drilled into him as a pup and the last thing he wanted to do was force one out so he could get in. "Y'all are already doing too much for me. Just tell me where to lay and I'll be all set." Emmett punctuated the request with a crooked smile pointed at Nashota - an attempt to make sure she knew he really was alright with laying outside.

Nashota watched as the Male came to his feet. She shares his chuckle when he mentioned a second assailant. "Sounds like quite the story." She mused. She nodded to his thanks. He refused her thanks and she tilted her head in question. She nodding in understanding. "Very well." She said as she turned around to be adjacent to him. "Come." She jerked her head to the side. "We can take cover in the brush over here." She moved at a slow walk to some brush that lined the den area. She looked back at him, tail raised, head up. "You can sleep here." She gave him the d ok minant look she had inherited from her ancestors. A look that said he wouldn't question her. "I will organize a hunt soon." She said after a thought. "Perhaps after some rest and food, you will be of use to the pack." She gave a wicked grin. "Your profession can't possibly be hunter, can it?"

The dark ebony shaded canine padded his way through the forest, weaving inside and out of the thick pines. His shadow cast out to his side in a taller and skinnier form. Pausing for a short moment he lowered his massive head to the grass and inhaled deeply until finding the needed scent. His chief. A short grunt exited his darkened lips, sending needles flying about. Quickening his pace into a trot it was not long until he came across the golden female with another. The other obviously being a vagabond she had come across during his absence from her side. His ears perked upright whenever he heard her mentioning of a pack hunt. One good solid fresh meal would do everyone well as it had been some time since the pairs previous meal. Stepping out of the tree line and into the area where the other two were, he greeted them in his deep toned voice. "Greetings, m'lady. And stranger?" he stated with the words rolling off his tongue easily, "If you ask me, a good rest and a fresh meal sound great."

The branches snaked overhead as a small figure weaved in between the shrubs and tree trunks in her path. Not all of the sunlight hit the floor, but its dappled placement through the canopy illuminated where Whisper needed to go, so it was enough. One of the only things the yearling was good at was traveling silently, and that's exactly what she did. The earth shifted silently under her paws as she padded onward, the wolf being careful to step on certain pieces of ground so that when she walked, she would not make a sound. That was not to say she wasn't downwind, or that she couldn't possibly be seen through the forest. She was just a silent walker.

The sound of voices hit her ears, and she paused as her head cocked to the right. A pack! That was great, maybe they would take her in? Being separated from her birth pack was not something that she had anticipated, but she figured she could either stay put and die of starvation or she could seize the day and try to find food. So here she was, finding food.

Trotting out of the cover of the forest where the wolves could see her, she perked her triangular ears forward and wagged her tail in curiosity.

"Hello! I'm Whisper."

As Nashota awaited a response from Emmett, she heard pastels and then her Advisors voice beside her. She chuckled at his words. "I agree." She said. "I think a trip to Running Meadow would be an adventure in itself." She grinned at a thought and added after a moment, "And far more interesting than-"

She heard a young voice and turned her head to see that a young female wolf had made herself present and gave a confident greeting. "Hello, Whisper." She replied. "I'm Nashota, Chief of the Apache Sunrise Pack. What brings you here?" She appeared to be quite young. Nashota wondered if her dispersal pack was near. "Are you lost?" The words escaped before she could revise such a blunt question. After all she was only a pup to the Chief.
